The following courses are currently available through this Discovery for Credit site.  Each course corresponds with a travel program.  Scroll through the list below to find your course. 

 


U.S. Government/Inauguration 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Teaching government matters.  Our goal is for students to leave this program interested and informed.  This one-semester course is an introduction to the U.S. government and political system.  Students will study government institutions and political processes and examine policy choices.  The institutions and policies of the government are considered in light of historical change, constitutional procedures, and comparative perspectives.  This course is 0.5 U.S. Government credit. 

        ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  •  To register for this course, students travel wtih WorldStrides Education, Heritage Festivals, or Bowl Games of America to the Presidential Inauguration 2009 program in Washington, D.C. 

Musical Performance

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

There are three phases involved in the creative process of music: first, composition; then performance; and finally, listening and understanding. This course is intended to give students of any background the knowledge and skills to participate fully in the third phase of the creative process-hearing and understanding music. An ability to read or perform music is not necessary for the course. The goal is to educate students in the art of appreciating music. This course is 0.5 Musical Performance credit. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  •  To register for this course, students travel wtih Heritage Festivals or Bowl Games of America on a Performing program. 

 

 

Middle School Science 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

These four courses provide a unique look at ecosystems, ranging from the Florida Everglades to the Costa Rican rainforests.  While each course has similar features, they all possess a unique chapter topic related specifically to the travel program.  Each course is 0.5 elective credit. 

  • Science in Motion:  In a technological society, creativity and cooperative innovation are used to solve real-world, everyday problems like energy conservation, forms of matter and environment protection.  
  • Splash in to Science:  Where land meets ocean and marine life on the water, in the water and above the water, this course provides a unique look at the importance of sustainability within various ecosystems.
  • Habitat H2O:  From freshwater to saltwater, biodiversity and water quality are inter-connected within different habitats. 
  • Eco-Adventures Costa Rica:  From wildlife sanctuaries to volcanoes, the value of Costa Rica ecosystems is unique and diverse and something to be protected.

  •  To register for any one of these courses, students travel wtih WorldStrides Education to Tampa, Miami/The Keys, or Orlando, Florida or Costa Rica.   
   

 

High School Science 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

These three courses are available to students in grades 9-12.  Each course is 1.0 Environmental Science credit.   

  • Dive in to Science:  The only barrier reef in North America, Florida has a diverse inter-relationship between human and aquatic ecosystems to study and explore.     
  • Coastal Conservation Costa Rica:   The study of interrelationships between humans, other living things and the environment is a key aspect of this course.  Students study all the components of aquatic systems and examine ways to minimize these impacts.   
  • Eco-Adventures Costa Rica:  Changes in the earth and conservation efforts result from interactions among the lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere.

                                        ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  •  To register for any one of these courses, students travel wtih WorldStrides Education to Miami/The Keys, Florida or Costa Rica.   

 

High School International 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

These five courses are available to students in grades 9-12 who have traveled on an International program.  Each course has a specific type of credit based on the travel program content.  Students are allowed to mix-n-match their coursework.   Each course is 1.0 credit (see description for specific course credit).   

  • Ageless Arts:  This course is for students who have traveled to France or Italy and are interested in the Fine Arts.  To experience Europe, this course uses sight to explore the history and culture of art and historians.  This course is Europe:  Art History.      
  • Ruins, Renaissance, Revolutions:   Experience a personal rebirth through Italy and France as you study European history from ancient Roman times to the present.  This course is:  Europe: European History.     
  • Spain Language and Culture:  This course focuses students to evaluate their cultural experiences in Barcelona and Madrid, Spain, using their five senses:  sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell.  This course is:  Europe:  Spanish Language and Culture.   
  • London Theater:  Through a unique study at famous British playhouses, students will compare and contrast the arts between the United States and the United Kingdom.  In doing so, they will learn about their own selves.  This course is:  Europe:  Dramatic Arts
  • London to Edinburgh Literature:  The study of the written word is a powerful adventure for students.  Actually reading and studying works of great authors who have lived in the history catalogs of the United Kingdom is even more aweinspiring.  This course is:  Europe:  English Literature.

  •  To register for any one of these courses, students travel wtih WorldStrides Education to Europe:  United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, or France.     

Middle School East Coast History

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

This course is available to students in middle school who have traveled on a trip the East Coast.  This may be a multitude of cities, such as Williamsburg, Philadelphia, Charlottesville or simply you traveled to Washington, D.C.  No matter where you traveled, the course is the same.  This course is 0.5 elective credit. 

  • East Coast History:  This course teaches students how to appreciate your government structure, the basics of democracy and empowers students to reach out and become part of their communities.  Civic engagement is a powerful learning experience.  This course is:  East Coast History
